How To Add A Song From Garageband To Imovie

Hey Folks,
I have a piece of music, 5+ mins long, and I'm trying to add it to a movie. When I add the music in iMovie, the finished track has some weird noises at times .. noises that aren't on the Garageband file, or the iTunes AIFF or MP3 files. They even sound OK in the iMovie project, but when I 'share' to an mp4, there's some noise. So I'm trying to go the other way, and bring the movie into Garageband, and see if that works. Here's the problem.
The movie has about 9-10 seconds before I want to music to start, yet the song in Garageband starts on the downbeat (well, on beat 2). Is there, a way i can add a measure or 2 to the entire song, at the start of it. I tried moving each track out a measure or 2, but it doesn't seem to move the master volume curves along with it, which would mean redoing all the panning and volume curves on the track, and there are tons of them. If i can just add or 'insert' 2 measures at the start, I'm golden.
Thanks folks.
Cheers
Carl

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.5), iLife 09.

Import a song from the Music app into GarageBand for iPhone. You can import songs from the Music app on your iPhone into Tracks view. You can import a song to an existing Audio Recorder or Amp track, or have GarageBand create a new Audio Recorder track for the song. Songs imported from the Music app do not follow tempo changes you make in. Music is a vital part of most movies (even non-musicals), setting the tone for your video, and Apple iMovies are no different. You can add music to your iMovie as a background score. Even better, you can also add other sound effects to movies in iMovie.

If you make a song using GarageBand, you may want to use it in an iMovie project. To do so, follow the steps in the next section.

NoteAdd

iMovie and GarageBand are only available for macOS and iOS devices.

  1. First, open the desired project in GarageBand by selecting File, Open, and then the desired GarageBand file (with file extension.band).
  2. To export a GarageBand project, select Share, then click Export Song to Disk to open the export menu.
  3. Choose a name for your file, then, under Format, choose MP3 or your desired audio extension.
  4. Click Export to begin the process. Once your song is exported, open up iMovie.
  5. In iMovie, open your existing project from the library, or create a new one.
  6. Once you are in a project, select File, then Import Media.
  7. Find your exported project from GarageBand, and then select it.
  8. Click Import Selected to bring it to your Project Media. Then, you can drag-and-drop your audio file into your iMovie project.
